Jesus had just fed over 5,000 people with only two fish and five pieces of bread. After everybody ate, Jesus sent the people away, and told his friends–the disciples–to get in a boat and go to the other side of the sea. Jesus went up to a mountain and prayed to God.

Meanwhile, the disciples were in the boat and went far from land. There was a storm coming and the waves were very high. The disciples were afraid their boat would sink. They were in the boat when Jesus came to them early in the morning by walking on the sea. He wasn't swimming through the water; He was walking on top of it!

When the disciples saw Jesus walking on the sea, they were afraid. They had never seen anyone walk on water, so they thought Jesus was a ghost.

But Jesus spoke to them at once. "It's all right," He said. "I am here! Don't be afraid."

One of the disciples, named Peter, spoke next. He said, "Lord, if it's really You, tell me to come to You by walking on water."

Jesus answered, "Okay. Come."

Peter climbed over the side of the boat, and walked on top of the water toward Jesus. But when Peter was almost there, he saw the big waves, got scared, and started to sink. Peter yelled, "Save me, Lord!"

Jesus gave Peter His hand and saved him. He said, "You don't have much faith. Why didn't you believe Me?"

When Jesus and Peter climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. The other disciples who saw everything worshiped Jesus and said, "You really are God's Son!"

Memory Verse

"But Jesus spoke to them at once. 'It's all right,' He said. 'I am here! Don't be afraid!'" (Matthew 14:27).

Jesus told Peter he

Could walk on water too

Peter climbed out of the boat

And knew just what to do.

But as he walked across the sea

Peter saw the great big waves

He thought that he might sink

And he became afraid.

He called out to Jesus

And was saved right away

But Jesus then told Peter

"You have little faith."

The disciples had been watching

And there was not even one

Who did not now believe

That Jesus was God's Son.
