Feeding of the Five Thousand
Fish & Loaves

As more people heard about the miracles and wonders Jesus performed, crowds followed Him everywhere He went. One day, Jesus and His disciples traveled to a desert area. Over five thousand people followed Him there. With all the people watching, Jesus spoke to them about God and healed those that were sick.

After the long day in the hot, desert sun, the disciples—or followers of Jesus—came to Jesus and asked Him to let the people go back to town because they were hungry and there wasn’t enough food for everyone.

Jesus was concerned about their hunger and He told His disciples to give the hungry people something to eat. But the disciples told Jesus they didn’t have any food.

A young boy came to Andrew, a disciple of Jesus, and offered to give up his lunch—five bread loaves and two small fishes. With 5,000 people in the desert, that small amount of bread and fish was all the food they had!

Jesus told His disciples to make the gathering sit down in groups of fifty. He then took the bread and fish, looked to heaven, and blessed the food. When Jesus gave the disciples the food He had blessed, they realized there was enough for everyone!

After everyone had eaten and was full, Jesus told the disciples to gather up the remaining food, so nothing was wasted. Twelve extra baskets of bread and fish were left over!

The people in the desert who came to see Jesus were convinced He was the Son of God after they saw Him perform this miracle.
