Many people respected Abraham because they knew that he was a loyal follower of God. Abraham always trusted God to help him, even when he went through bad times. One day, Abimelech—the king of a nearby country—came to him and said, “I see how God takes care of you and watches after you. I have always been your friend, so tell me that you will be kind to me and treat me well.” “I promise,” said Abraham. So Abraham and King Abimelech made a pact—a promise to treat each other fairly. Abraham then told Abimelech: “One of your servants has stolen my well of water.” Abimelech was surprised: “I did not know that,” he said. “I am not sure who took your well.” Abraham wanted to show Abimelech that he was honest about the well and would keep his promise to be the king’s friend, so he took seven lambs and gave them to Abimelech. “Why are you giving me your lambs?” Abimelech asked. “They are a gift to you to show my honesty,” Abraham said. “This well is mine.” Abimelech then returned to his country, while Abraham planted a tree beside the well and prayed to God. God would continue to bless Abraham throughout his life. Remember Rhyme Abraham
